Not every copier problem needs a service call. Some of the most common ones you can clear up yourself in a couple of minutes. Here is where to start.
Streaky or Lined Copies
Nine times out of ten, it is a dirty scanner glass. Lift the lid and look at the long, thin strip of glass on the left — that narrow strip is what the machine reads when it scans through the feeder. A soft, dry cloth usually does it. If the streak is still there after you have wiped it down, the problem is likely inside the machine, and that part is our department.
Paper Jams
Pull jammed paper in the direction it was already feeding, slow and steady. Never yank it backward. That is how a small piece tears off and hides somewhere you cannot see it. Open each panel the machine points you to and check for stragglers. One torn corner left behind will jam you again on the very next page.
Faded Prints
Could be low toner. Could also be an "eco" or "toner save" setting that somebody switched on by accident. Check the settings before you assume the worst — it is an easy thing to miss.
The Machine Will Not Wake Up
Check that it is actually powered on and that the front panel is fully closed. Sounds obvious, we know. It is also the fix about a third of the time.
We are filming walkthroughs for these on our YouTube channel — find us at @bayouoffice if you would rather watch than read.
And if you have tried the simple stuff and the problem is still there, do not fight it. Give us a call at (985) 693-7811.
